Today I’m sharing this fun hand painted sign I made for or master bedroom with left over wood from the faux barn wood project above our bed!
Above these bookshelves in our room there is an arched “nook” in the wall. I thought making a personalized sign would be a fun way to fill it.
After we exchanged vows at our wedding we turned around and walked up the isle to the song “Better Together” by Jack Johnson. In fact, below is the photo of us at that very moment. That’s why I decided to stencil a knot and our wedding date on the sign too 🙂
Here’s the lyrics in case you don’t remember it 🙂
by Jack Johnson
There is no combination of words I could put on the back of a postcard
No song that I could sing, but I can try for your heart
Our dreams, and they are made out of real things
Like a, shoebox of photographs
With sepia-toned loving
Love is the answer,
At least for most of the questions in my heart
Like why are we here? And where do we go?
And how come it’s so hard?
It’s not always easy and
Sometimes life can be deceiving
I’ll tell you one thing, it’s always better when we’re togetherMmm, it’s always better when we’re together
Yeah, we’ll look at the stars when we’re together
Well, it’s always better when we’re together
Yeah, it’s always better when we’re together
I started out with these three boards my husband secured together from the back. He also cut the top in an arch shape for me so it could fit the area above the shelves.
I painted it with Chalk Paint by Annie Sloan in the color French Linen,
and then went over it with the Annie Sloan Dark Wax to make it look older.
I used letter stencils to paint the BETTER in a paint color called Amber Rose by Valspar. After I painted the letters I outlined them with a black Sharpie so it’d stand out more. The word “together” is written in cursive with a pencil first and then painted over it with the same coral colored paint. I thought it helped to print out the “together” on paper in the font I wanted to emulate so I could look at it while penciling the word. I also outlined this word with a Sharpie. The last thing I did was stencil the knot and our initials and wedding date. I used a Sharpie paint pen to do that part.
So what do you think? I feel like it fits in great with our room! I love making personalized decor like this. It’s what makes a rented house like this a home 🙂 So my makeover is almost finished. I just need to finish painting the dressers! I’m hoping now that the kids are back in school this will happen soon.
On a side note I just wanted to mention I started an Instagram account just for Fancy Frugal Life. I love to share deals I find, thrift store finds, my garden uodates, and fun life stuff there too! I hope you’ll follow along 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
Have a beautiful day.
